Programs

The Media Arts Committee (MAC) works with the Center's Program Director in planning and implementing media art events. This includes hosting screenings by local, regional, and traveling filmmakers, and staging performance events by visiting artists.

The MAC also develops local on-going programs including:

 

Video Slam. DIVA's Video Slam evening combines the opportunity to network and explore ideas with others and participate in a monthly competitive slam event. The slam is meant to inspire and assist upcoming video artists by providing the opportunity to share knowledge, experiences, and techniques with fellow video enthusiasts.

 

Videomaker's are encouraged to bring their finished or works in progress to be screened in a friendly supportive environment. Audience choice selected slam winners going on to an annual festival at years' end. Read more about the Video Slam
 

History of Film: Great Directors. This is a Lane Community College course taught in collaboration with the DIVA Center. The class is held the first Sunday of the Month at DIVA as an on-going exploration of the trends and innovations of the most creative filmmakers. A discussion follows each film led by DIVA’s screenwriting instructor former Hollywood Director, Tom Blank.

 

OpenLens Festival. The Fifth Annual OpenLens Festival January 9-10-11, 2009, is a celebration of the independent spirit in filmmaking. The Festival has become an umbrella event that host two juried contest including the South West Oregon Short Film and Video Competition and the Youth Visions' Teen Video Challenge. It also features a non-competitive 3-Minute Video Showcase - new for 2009. The festival includes workshops, screenings, receptions and a special guest filmmaker/host.
