Media Arts
| The DIVA Center, in addition to promoting regional two- and
three-dimensional art, supports those individuals who work with
time-based media. Time-based media describes projects using film, video, sound and computing technologies, including digital and analogue electronic media, performance and installation. The DIVA Media Arts Committee, often called the MAC by members, began as the 2nd Friday Film Forum nearly two years ago. That group, which originally screened independent films once a month, quickly grew into the current 13-member committee that is actively dedicated to presenting a diversity of events including: independent films from emerging filmmakers, experimental video and music performances, workshops by visiting artists, and annual events like the Open Lens Film Festival, and the Improvised Music and Moving Image Festival. DIVA CENTER AS VENUE The DIVA Media Art program fills a niche, a need that no other resource in Eugene does. It provides a venue for artists working in newer media AND it provides audiences in Eugene with experiences they can't get anywhere else locally. Traveling artists have told us that for a long time there has been "nothing between northern California and Portland" until DIVA. Artists talk and we're gaining a regional, and even national, profile as a destination for film and video arts. The Center has recently purchased a professional theater quality video projection system and screen. Our facility comfortably seats 65 people and up to 90 with standing room only.
