Media Arts

DIVA encourages and supports artists who work in time-based media such as film, video, sound and digital arts.

Monthly programming brings hundreds of new patrons to the Center each year to experience film screenings and workshops by emerging artists, interactive installation exhibits, experimental multimedia and sound art performances, as well as annual events like the OpenLens Film Festival each January.

The Media Arts program has showcased internationally recognized artist such as: Screenwriter/Director Susan Emshwiller; Producer/Director Neal Miller; Canadian filmmaker Alex MacKenzie, Portland Artist Matt McCormick, media consultant Morrie Warshawski, and world renown electro-acoustic composers and musicians Carl Stone and Emil Beaulieau.

Young filmmakers are encouraged to be a part of the Media Arts Program. DIVA has recently joined with the Eugene-based Youth Visions Project to offer production and screen writing workshops. The Center also hosts an annual Teen Video Challenge competition.

Time-based media have proven crucial to the success of DIVA as a cultural resource in the heart of Eugene. For more information about the media arts program, or how to become involved as an artist or volunteer, contact DIVA's Program Director.
